Yasir Shah to miss warm-up game with back trouble

Pakistan legspinner Yasir Shah hurt his back during a training session at the Cazaly’s Stadium in Cairns on Tuesday, and will miss his team’s warm-up game at the same venue later this week as a result

ESPNcricinfo staff06-Dec-2016Pakistan legspinner Yasir Shah hurt his back during a training session at the Cazaly’s Stadium in Cairns on Tuesday, and will miss his team’s warm-up game at the same venue later this week as a result. He is being treated for the issue by a doctor in Cairns, and has been advised a few days’ rest.Pakistan will play a three-day tour game against a Cricket Australia XI from December 8. The three-Test series starts on December 15 in Brisbane.Since his debut in October 2014, Yasir has quickly developed into Pakistan’s first-choice spinner and has missed just one Test, against England in Abu Dhabi in October last year – he had to sit out that game due to back spasms. In his 20 Tests, he has picked up 116 wickets at 27.89, and became the joint second-fastest to 100 Test wickets (17 matches) in Dubai earlier this year in what was Pakistan’s 400th Test. In July, he became the first legspinner since Shane Warne to be ranked the No. 1 Test bowler, and the first Pakistan bowler since Mushtaq Ahmed in December 1996 to achieve that feat.Among the 16 players named by Pakistan for the Australia Tests, left-arm spinner Mohammad Nawaz is the only other specialist spinner.

Liverpool Enter Race For £53k-p/w "Beast" To Succeed Firmino

Liverpool have joined the race to bring Borussia Monchengladbach striker Marcus Thuram to the Premier League, according to reports.

Who is Marcus Thuram?

Thuram is a centre-forward who currently plays his football at the Borussia Park having moved there from Guingamp back in 2019, and he’s since gone on to become a regular feature of the first-team having clocked up 134 appearances to date.

The France international started 28 of the 34 Bundesliga games last season and was a standout performer under Daniel Farke before he departed, ranking as his manager’s top-performing offensive player and second overall with a WhoScored match rating of 7.09, so he’s bound to have attracted interest.

However, the 6 foot 4 titan will be out of contract at the end of the month and is expected to depart as a free agent having not signed a deal to extend his stay, with his potential availability having alerted FSG and Jurgen Klopp at Anfield.

Are Liverpool signing Thuram?

According to Spanish reports (via CaughtOffside), Liverpool have entered the running to sign Thuram ahead of the 2023/24 campaign. The Reds are reportedly “hoping to snap him up” for nothing during the upcoming window, and it’s stated that the striker could be wanting to “take the next step” in his career. The Premier League is viewed as an “attractive option” so he is therefore “likely to be tempted” should an offer arrive at his door.

Borussia Monchengladbach striker Marcus Thuram.

Where would Thuram fit in at Anfield?

Liverpool have confirmed that Roberto Firmino is leaving the club so Klopp will be in need of a suitable replacement in time for the start of the new season, and given the fact that he would be available to recruit for quite literally free, Thuram could be the perfect long-term successor, allowing the serious funds to be spent in midfield.

The World Cup participant, who pockets £53k-per-week, racked up 19 goal contributions (13 goals and six assists) in 30 Bundesliga appearances last season and recorded a total of 92 shots over the course of the campaign, which was higher than any other of his fellow teammates, as per FBRef, with this form seeing him collect four man-of-the-match awards.

Borussia Monchengladbach’s “beast”, as dubbed by talent scout Jacek Kulig, is also a versatile operator with his ability to operate everywhere across the frontline, including at centre-forward, out wide on both flanks and as a second striker, so he really seems to have all the qualities to fit what the boss is likely to be looking for in a Firmino replacement.

Duckett and Hameed make distinct cases

Ben Duckett and Haseeb Hameed offer different qualities as Alastair Cook’s England opening partner in the first Test against Bangladesh

Will Macpherson15-Oct-2016
ScorecardOn the first day of their warm-up schedule, England were reminded that, for Thursday’s first Test against Bangladesh, they must go one way or another at the top of the order. Sure, Ben Duckett or Haseeb Hameed is a choice between two precocious batsmen. But it is also a choice between two distinctive styles of play, two utterly different approaches. The scorecard tells the tale of the 84 minutes Duckett and Hameed spent at the wicket together in their first outings in white kit for the national team. Each lived up to his billing.Duckett’s method – encapsulated by some booming pulls that found their way across an allotment of an outfield – screams, whereas Hameed’s whispers. The former quickly had a 59-ball fifty studded with cuts and drives (scoring half of the 12 boundaries his team managed), the latter left everything he could and took 15 balls to get off the mark.Broad lauds cautious approach

Stuart Broad admitted that England’s pace bowlers throttled back in their first bowl of the tour because of injury concerns on a boggy and sandy surface.
The MA Aziz multi-purpose ground, situated yards from England’s team hotel, hosted 18 football league matches in July and August and unseasonal rain in the Chittagong region last week also led groundstaff to use sand to quicken the drying process.
“The medical staff were concerned because when you get such soft ground and you’re basically running in sand and mud, your calves come into question with the damage you could do,” Broad said.
“With the first Test round the corner there are a lot of questions being asked this morning. If we had to bowl 45 overs of spin today, we would have done that but I think the seamers, especially bowling second, were able to see the ground dry out slightly. You wouldn’t want to bowl 20 overs in it but [it was useful] to get the aerobic side of it going.”

In a game on Saturday that was reduced because of rain to a one-day match without a result, rendering it nothing more than middle practice, Duckett made another half-century, unbeaten this time, while Hameed was dismissed – by a spitting leg-break – for 16.Many in the camp have remarked that Hameed is reminiscent of Joe Root when he first emerged. Having not bulked up, the bat can turn in his hand upon impact and causes him to run lots of twos. Those who watch him regularly at Lancashire note how rarely the close fielders are left gasping or appealing: he oozes control. He is highly rated and already a popular presence in the group, but as elegant and poised as his 16 looked, it was still 16. Duckett has taken the first rubber; their battle will continue across a two-day game starting on Sunday.Stuart Broad, who had his first bowl of the tour as England toiled later on, has been impressed by both. Of Hameed, he said: “There’s a really nice calm aura about him when he’s practicing, and certainly in the middle, when I’ve played against him twice this year. He knows his gameplan for such a young guy, and has been hugely impressive in the conditions so far.”His assessment of Duckett was equally enthusiastic in its different way. “Duckett scores in slightly different areas, he’s quite awkward to bowl to and he sticks to his gameplan,” he said. “He’s had such a brilliant breakthrough year both in red-ball and white-ball cricket domestically and he’s been brilliant in Bangladesh so far so his confidence is very high. You could see by the way he was striking the ball, to be hitting fours on this outfield was a good effort.”If he is around, of course Alastair Cook opens. But Cook, who was in Bangladesh for acclimatisation purposes during the one-day series, has returned to England with his wife’s birth of their second child imminent. For all the confidence from Cook and in the camp, there has to be a chance, given the paucity and duration of flights, that he does not make it back for Thursday morning’s toss. That eventuality would mean that England would field two debutants at the top of the order for the first time since 1937, when Len Hutton and Jim Parks Jr made their bow, and a new captain, Root. Cook would also have to wait to overtake Alec Stewart as England’s most capped Test cricketer.Haseeb Hameed in reflective mood•Getty ImagesThere is more at work over the next two days than just the opener’s spot, though. Remarkably, the only certainty is that Root will bat No 3. It appears that Moeen Ali will be promoted to No 5, with Ben Stokes and Jonny Bairstow to follow. Chris Woakes and Adil Rashid will complete the allrounder’s slots, Stuart Broad will win his 99th cap, and Gareth Batty – at least for Chittagong, where it should be slow and low – looks likely to make up a three-seam, three spin attack.Which leaves No 4. Gary Ballance is the man in possession, and he made an unbeaten 27 – albeit slightly shakily – against a BCB XI in Chittagong on Saturday. Twenty-seven, coincidentally, is what he averaged against Pakistan on the return to the side in the summer. The fact that Alex Hales and James Vince are not to retain their places may work in Ballance’s favour, but he is fighting off competitors on two fronts.During the ODI series, eagerness to find a place – somewhere, anywhere – for Jos Buttler seemed to rise. The back-up keeper is in sensational touch, and boasts Trevor Bayliss as a major admirer, even if he lacks recent red-ball pedigree, but now the youngsters are in vogue; Paul Farbrace seemed excited by the idea of Duckett slotting into the middle order with Hameed opening. After Friday’s play was cancelled due to a boggy outfield, England’s medical staff were unsure about the bowlers steaming in 24 hours later, and when their chance came, the bowlers struggled, waiting 43.4 overs for a wicket (with two batsmen retiring), at which point Batty took two in three balls. Two catches were dropped off the bowling of Zafar Ansari, while Broad and Steven Finn leaked runs.It is clear that the next two days, both for finding rhythm for the bowlers and piecing together a batting order, are increasingly vital for England’s trip to Bangladesh and the subsequent challenge in India.

Du Plessis century underpins crushing South Africa win

South Africa’s batsmen overwhelmed Australia for the second time in as many matches. The final margin of 142 runs was South Africa’s second-biggest over Australia.

The Report by Daniel Brettig02-Oct-2016
Scorecard and ball-by-ball detailsA decade after the most high-scoring ODI in history, the Wanderers witnessed something far less competitive. South Africa’s batsmen overwhelmed Australia for the second time in as many matches, despite the visiting captain winning the toss and choosing to chase on a Wanderers pitch brimful of runs. The final margin of 142 runs was South Africa’s second-biggest over Australia.Where at Centurion it had been Quinton de Kock handing out the punishment, here it was the captain Faf du Plessis who prospered, helped either side of his innings by strong contributions by Rilee Rossouw and JP Duminy. Their innings ensured a difficult day for the Australian pace debutants Joe Mennie and Chris Tremain, who were taken for 160 runs between them in 20 overs. In reply to a steep target of 362, the tourists were never able to mount a decent challenge from the moment Aaron Finch skied an attempt to pull Kagiso Rabada in the second over. From there, regular wickets stymied progress to make it a more or less stress-free afternoon for the Proteas, who always had plenty of runs in reserve even as Travis Head posted his highest ODI score. On a pristine day for batting and a friendly pitch, Australia’s bowlers struggled again in the absence of Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood. Du Plessis’ 111 was a fine example of high tempo and good placement, not requiring a single six despite striking at nearly 120 runs per 100 balls. Duminy’s was a bigger-hitting innings, after Rossouw had produced a flurry of boundaries against the new ball to set South Africa on the road to a big total. After de Kock destroyed Australia’s bowling attack in making 178 in the opening match at Centurion, the visitors dropped Scott Boland and Daniel Worrall, replacing them with Mennie and Tremain. South Africa did not make any changes to the team that won the first match of the series. The captain du Plessis indicated that Hashim Amla was fit to return and had simply been left out, leaving Rossouw at the top of the order. It was Rossouw who duly got the Proteas going in the early overs, repeatedly piercing the off-side field with well-timed strokes that flew across a fast – if somewhat uneven – Wanderers outfield. Both Mennie and Tremain were able to beat the bat numerous times with a modicum of early seam movement, but in between whiles, a high number of boundaries meant there was little scoreboard pressure imposed. It wasn’t until John Hastings entered the attack that a wicket fell, de Kock failing to get hold of a lofted drive and offering a catch to Tremain.Du Plessis’ early minutes at the crease were eventful and painful, as a shy at the stumps struck him on the glove as he ran through for a single. The blow required treatment, and he was to be struck there again soon after by another ball that popped up towards the splice of the bat.Faf du Plessis notched his sixth ODI ton•AFPHowever the pain subsided enough for du Plessis to get into his stride, as Rossouw maintained his form. Together they took South Africa to 146 after 24 overs, separated only when Rossouw skied Hastings just when a century beckoned.Duminy’s arrival brought a further period of acceleration, with du Plessis also lifting his scoring rate with nifty placement and the occasional burst of power. Australia’s captain Steven Smith was hard pressed to find bowlers capable of keeping things quiet, and when Duminy began swinging – striking the first three sixes of the innings – a tally in the region of 400 looked momentarily possible. The Australians regrouped somewhat in the later overs, dismissing Duminy and du Plessis in quick succession to pull the run-rate back slightly, and it was a fair measure of the conditions that the hosts were left feeling they could have made even more than they did. That being said, only a strong partnership or two from the potentially explosive Australian top order was going to be able to turn the contest their way,However these sorts of stands have been missing from Smith’s team of late, with victories in Sri Lanka compiled in lower-scoring circumstances. Finch’s early wicket set the tone, with a critical moment to follow when Smith was well claimed down the leg side by de Kock from the bowling of Dale Steyn just as he looked capable of dominating. The vice-captain David Warner seemed similarly poised after moving to 50, but then threw away his innings by clouting a Duminy long hop straight to midwicket. That dismissal left Head and the wicketkeeper Matthew Wade trying to resurrect the innings, but their stand of 69 in 61 balls served only to delay the inevitable.Having entered this tour at less than full strength in bowling, the Australians needed to compensate in batting. A complete failure to do so in games one and two has left the series only one match away from being decided already.

"Fantastic" £150k-p/w Chelsea Star Attracting Transfer Interest

Christian Pulisic is set to depart Chelsea this summer, and is attracting strong interest from Juventus, journalist Mark Ogden has revealed.

What's the latest on Pulisic and Chelsea?

The USA international has just one year remaining on his contract, and having lost his place in the starting XI, he is ready to depart Stamford Bridge.

The 24-year-old has made 30 appearances across all competitions this season, but has managed just one goal in what has been a hugely disappointing campaign.

Ogden claims Chelsea have offered him out to a number of clubs, and it now seems that Italian giants Juventus are the front-runners for his signature.

Speaking on ESPN FC, Ogden revealed the interest from the Old Lady, and claimed that the £150k-per-week star has been touted around Europe as Chelsea seek to push him out the door.

"I think Pulisic needs to move now, and what I was told is that he's been offered around quite a few clubs," he stated.

"Man United have been contacted, Newcastle, AC Milan, Galatasaray. Napoli. I've been told Juventus are more interested than most, and I think that they can do the deal.

"They're losing [Juan] Cuadrado and [Angel] Di Maria is out of contract this summer. So Pulisic would come in and bolster their attacking line. I think £20m nowadays is not that much of a fee for a player that's got Champions League experience and Premier League experience.

"His wages might be an issue, but I think Pulisic to Juventus is a good move."

Should Chelsea sell Pulisic?

Chelsea have signed Raheem Sterling, Noni Madueke and Mykhailo Mudryk in the last two transfer windows, meaning that both wing spots are occupied to the extent that Pulisic will struggle for game-time.

Chelsea winger Chrisitan Pulisic picks up a fresh injury in their Premier League clash against Manchester City.

The Blues may need to recover some funds after a year of heavy spending, and receiving £20m for an underperformer who could leave for free at the end of next season could be excellent business.

Pulisic could help Juventus replace Di Maria, and he was described as "fantastic" by Giorgio Chiellini when linked with a move to Turin a year ago.

The American was highly rated when he joined Chelsea for around £57.6m in 2019, but never found consistency beyond a few flashes of quality in that time, and will likely depart having scored 26 times in 145 appearances.

Pulisic's best spell came under Frank Lampard in his first season at the club, scoring 11 and assisting 10 times across all competitions, which included a goal in the FA Cup final defeat to Arsenal, but he has failed to replicate that form since, and a move away could be beneficial for all parties.

Ryan Harris named Australia bowling coach for South Africa tour

Former Australia fast bowler Ryan Harris has been appointed Australia’s bowling coach for the team’s upcoming ODI tour of South Africa

‘A great learning experience for me’ – Harris

Former Australia fast bowler Ryan Harris has been appointed Australia’s bowling coach for the team’s upcoming ODI tour of South Africa. He joins head coach Darren Lehmann and assistant coach David Saker in Australia’s coaching staff.Harris, who retired from cricket in July 2015, is currently assistant coach of the National Performance Squad in the A-team quadrangular series in Australia. He also served as the Under-19 Cricket Australia XI coach last season.”It’s great experience to learn from David Saker and Darren Lehmann,” Harris said of the appointment. “I’m really just going to sit back and watch and learn.”Eventually I’d like to work my way to the top and become a [full-time] bowling coach of the Australian team one day. Just like playing, you have to earn your stripes and learn the ropes.”Harris took 113 wickets in 27 Tests and 44 wickets in 21 ODIs for Australia, in an injury-plagued career. Eventually injury ended his career, a recurring right-knee problem forcing him to retire at the age of 35.Lehmann welcomed the addition of Harris to the coaching staff. “I’m excited to have Ryan on board,” he said. “It’s a win-win having two experienced coaches in Ryan and David Saker being able to nurture our young group, particularly the up-and-coming bowlers joining, and we expect a positive response both on and off the field.”On the tour of South Africa, which kicks off on September 27, Australia are scheduled to play a one-off ODI against Ireland and a five-match series against the hosts.

"Extraordinary" Star Could Replace £60m Chelsea Flop

Chelsea are reportedly interested in signing Napoli centre-back Kim Min-jae this summer – and the South Korean could replace £60m flop Marc Cucurella at Stamford Bridge.

Would Kim Min-Jae be a good signing for Chelsea?

According to 90min, Napoli could be forced to sell the powerful centre-back this summer, with Chelsea among those interested in bringing him to the Premier League.

Manchester United, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are all also thought to be in the running, while Chelsea are said to have sent scouts to watch the 26-year-old play this month – and could bring him to Stamford Bridge for as little as €45m (£39m) due to a release clause in his contract, which is only eligible in the first two weeks of the upcoming transfer window.

Since joining from Fenerbahce last summer, the six foot three defender has gone on to make 34 appearances in Serie A for Luciano Spalletti's side, contributing two goals and two assists with a superb 7.10 rating from WhoScored for his performances.

Reece James is currently ranked as the top performer at Stamford Bridge with a 7.07 average rating, which emphasises just how impressive Kim has been in his first season in Italy.

He also averaged a 7.20 rating in the Champions League as Napoli reached the quarter-finals, so clearly has what it takes to play at the very top level.

Former Manchester United man Park Ji-sung was full of praise for his compatriot earlier in the campaign, saying:

"Extraordinary, what a talent. He took the right step by going to play in Turkey and showed himself ready to take a step forward. He didn't come directly to Italy but step by step, so he grew up and there is no doubt that he is doing extraordinary things, as a technical leader and personality in Naples".

Teammate Khvicha Kvaratskhelia also dubbed him as an "iron barrel" and described him as one of the best in the world, so he could certainly be a quality addition to Chelsea's squad this summer if he can live up to that praise.

Could Kim Min-Jae replace Cucurella at Chelsea?

One concern for Todd Boehly is the number of defensive options already at Stamford Bridge but if he were able to complete a deal for the former Beijing Guoan star, perhaps it could see Cucurella moved on.

The Spanish defender joined from Brighton last summer but has endured a difficult first season in west London, with WhoScored ranking him as the 15th-best performer in Chelsea's squad.

Often utilised as a left-sided centre-back, Cucurella hasn't looked comfortable at all in recent months and his lack of defensive awareness was cruelly exposed in the Champions League defeat against Real Madrid.

Given the competition for places at Chelsea and Boehly's demands for a better 2023/24 season, the 24-year-old is surely a prime candidate to be moved on this summer, especially if it can fund a move for Kim.

The South Korean has averaged far more interceptions, clearances and blocks per game than Cucurella so far this term, so would be a far more natural centre-back for Mauricio Pochettino to have at Stamford Bridge, making him a fine target Boehly should definitely try to sign.

Leicestershire deny Northants realistic chase

Northamptonshire batted out for a draw on the final afternoon at Wantage Road after Leicestershire declined to offer a reasonable chase

ECB Reporters Network16-Aug-2016
ScorecardPaul Horton fell for 99 as Leicestershire opted to stretch their lead•Getty ImagesNorthamptonshire batted out for a draw on the final afternoon at Wantage Road after Leicestershire declined to offer a reasonable chase. They set the home side 415 to win in 51 overs, so Northants just played out time for a 10-point draw on 118 for 1.Leicestershire’s 11 points keeps them in touch with the promotion race, with Division Two leaders Essex to play next week at Grace Road.Hope were raised of a last day run chase after Leicestershire resumed 49 without loss, 177 ahead but they made only steady progress in the morning session. Even 319 in front by lunch with 63 overs remaining, they felt the need to add a few more into the afternoon before eventually declaring 292 for 6.Northants might have hoped for a chase to tune up for Thursday’s 50-over quarter-final at home to Surrey but the size of the task left them with no option but to bat out for a draw, which they did only for the loss of Rob Newton, bowled by Ben Raine for 22.The day began full of intrigue but a tedious morning session ensued. Saif Zaib, with his left-arm spin, was the only beneficiary, picking up his maiden first-class wicket by having Angus Robson caught at midwicket for 84. He also denied Paul Horton a third century of the season by a single run, sharply held by Rory Kleinveldt at slip.Zaib went on to complete a five-wicket haul as Mark Cosgrove slapped a full toss to extra-cover shortly after lunch, Mark Pettini was stumped by Rob Keogh – who took the gloves to allow David Murphy to bowl – and Neil Dexter was lbw. Zaib finished with 5 for 148 having bowled 26 overs unchanged from the Lynn Wilson End.It was the only noteworthy performance of the day. It was thought a run chase would be agreed after Northants called in their first innings 122 behind on the third evening. But there was no sign of a charge from Leicestershire. Only in the final overs of the morning session were shots played with any great intent, Horton and Robson swinging Zaib over long-on.Northants only resorted to declaration bowling later in the morning when Alex Wakely and Adam Rossington sent down overs. Murphy also removed the pads and picked up a maiden first-class wicket when Ned Eckersley lifted to Wakely at long-on.

£50m Gem Already Spoke To Trippier Over Newcastle Transfer

James Maddison is thought to be interested in joining Newcastle United this season with Leicester City on the verge of being relegated.

The 2016 Premier League champions need Everton to drop points on Sunday otherwise they will be relegated from the top flight for the first time since returning in 2015. If they are relegated this weekend, it may make it simpler for Maddison to secure a summer switch to St. James' Park.

What's the latest on James Maddison to Newcastle?

According to the Shields Gazette, Leicester value Maddison at £50million, although the midfielder only has just over one year remaining on his contract.

Newcastle have had two bids for Maddison rejected in the past, but if the Foxes are unable to remain in the top flight, he may be available at a discounted price point.

Maddison is reportedly interested in a move to Newcastle and has already spoken to Kieran Trippier on international duty about playing for the Magpies. Callum Wilson also discussed the club with Maddison while they were at the World Cup in Qatar last year.

Meanwhile, Eddie Howe has been open about his admiration for the Leicester playmaker, saying:

“I have full respect for him and his abilities. I have seen him grow from a Football League player to a Premier League player. He’s been brilliant.

"He has been a great advert for the Premier League, but he’s a Leicester City player – and I fully respect that. I’d never talk about another contracted player coming here. But he’s a player I do respect."

How many goals and assists has Maddison got this season?

It's no surprise clubs are interested in Maddison. Despite the lack of quality around him at the King Power Stadium this season, Maddison has still managed ten goals and nine assists, an extremely impressive return for a team in the relegation zone this late in the season.

With the quality already at Newcastle in the final third such as Wilson and Alexander Isak, who have netted combined 28 goals in the league this season, Maddison could thrive if he made the switch to St. James' Park, where he would play for a Champions League side and at 26, you could say he is reaching his prime as a midfielder.

The England international is one of the best creators in the Premier League, ranking eighth for chances created this season, so appears ready for a big move, and it looks as if that could be north to turn out for the Magpies.

Man United Set To Show Door To £42,000-A-Week Player

It seems as though Axel Tuanzebe's time at Manchester United is coming to an end, with reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano reporting that the player will leave the club on a free when the season finishes.

What is the latest on Axel Tuanzebe's Man United exit?

The defender has spent the second half of the 2022/23 season on loan at Stoke, having struggled to get Premier League minutes at Old Trafford in the first part of the campaign. Despite joining the Potters back in January though, the player has managed just four appearances – and only three starts – at the bet365 Stadium, with the Championship season for the Potters now done and dusted.

Prior to his move into the second tier, the 25-year-old was shipped out to Napoli in a bid to get more playing time. That move resulted in just one Serie A appearance though and – in his stint before that – he was handed only six starts by Aston Villa too. His last consistent run of gametime came with the Villains all the way back when they were in the Championship themselves.

With the Red Devils, Tuanzebe has struggled to break into the first-team picture. He's managed just ten Premier League starts in five seasons with the club and has not had a single minute of league playing time for United since Erik Ten Hag took over. Now, with the defender unable to break into the fold, it appears he will now be shown the door.

According to reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano, the 25-year-old will be released by United this summer and can find a new club on a free. He stated: "It’s over between Manchester United and Axel Tuanzebe. The English CB will leave the club as free agent at the end of the season, decision made.

"After Aston Villa, Napoli and Stoke City loans, Tuanzebe is now looking for new chapter."

Are Man United correct to let Axel Tuanzebe leave?

The Red Devils not only have a strong academy setup but are capable of signing some of the best players on the world stage because of their finances and their standing in the game. It means that a player like Tuanzebe, who is now halfway through his twenties and has yet to get a run in the side, is unlikely to ever get regular minutes at Old Trafford.

That isn't to say the defender can't do a solid job elsewhere if he can stay fit. During his appearances for Stoke this season for example, he managed a respectable 6.60 WhoScored rating and also managed 1.3 tackles per game with four clearances. Even if you look at the run he had for United in the Europa League back in 2019/20, it shows he is well capable of producing at a good level. He managed a WhoScored rating average of 7.22 during his four appearances in the competition and even picked up a Man of the Match award.

Tuanzebe then would be a good pick up for any number of teams this summer – but there's unliekly to be any United gametime in the future, so it is likely the right call.
