Liverpool: Minamino could leave Liverpool

Liverpool are already making moves ahead of the summer transfer window which opens tomorrow, and now a reliable source has given an update on the club’s transfer plans going forward.

What’s the latest?

According to Liverpool reporter for The Athletic James Pearce, Liverpool are ready to offload a number of players this summer in their pursuit to freshen up the squad.

[snack-amp-story url=”https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-liverpool-news-transfer-rumours-gossip-salah-gnabry-isak-romano” title= “Read the latest Liverpool news!”]

Writing in an article for The Athletic, the journalist confirmed that Liverpool will look to sell Taki Minamino, Nat Phillips, Neco Williams and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain this summer.

Supporters will be buzzing

FSG operate a well-oiled machine in terms of recruitment and transfer business, running a tight wage structure that means offloading members of the squad who are on high wages but not contributing as key players is important for Liverpool to move forward with making new signings.

Supporters will surely be buzzing that Liverpool are taking steps forward to rebuild and shake up the squad ahead of next season, and if the club could sell all four players it would relieve the wage bill of a combined £225k-per-week (as per Salary Sport) which would save the Reds millions a year.

Liverpool have been linked with a number of players this summer already, including Darwin Nunez who has reportedly agreed personal terms for a deal rumoured to be worth €100m (£85.5m), but if the club are preparing to offload at least the four named by Pearce, there may be more transfers to come.

Mo Salah is another grey area ahead of the transfer window for the Kopites, as the club and the winger have come to a stalemate on an agreement on a new contract to would extend his stay at Anfield ahead of his current one expiring next summer.

If Liverpool could free up their wage bill by offloading all the players they intend to, it could put them in a better position to offer Salah a more attractive wage package when negotiations re-open in the coming months.

Ultimately, supporters will likely feel that the club is making the right steps forward to ensure Liverpool are moving forward and continuing to compete at the highest level.

Newcastle must secure Evan Ndicka swoop

Newcastle United brought in a number of new players during the January transfer window who ended up helping the club to avoid relegation and finish 11th in the Premier League.

Now that the summer transfer window has opened for business, this could see another flurry of business being conducted at St James’ Park.

In terms of potential outgoings, as Eddie Howe looks to freshen up his squad, one man who we feel shouldn’t continue with the Toon is Ciaran Clark.

Getting just 13 league appearances in 2021/22, the 32-year-old’s final squad inclusion came back in January when he made a 21-minute cameo in the 1-0 win over Leeds United at Elland Road. This doesn’t say much for his chances of playing regularly under Howe next season.

Whenever the Irishman did get a chance to play, he was more often than not a liability for his team, as Jamie Carragher made clear when he slammed the centre-back for his “shocking” defensive error against Manchester City just before Christmas. In the same month, he was given a red card nine minutes into Newcastle’s home clash against Norwich City.

In terms of who could come in to replace Clark, one player who has recently been linked with a £17m move to Tyneside and who could fit the bill is Eintracht Frankfurt defender Evan Ndicka.

Having made 138 appearances for the German club across all competitions, the 22-year-old has scored 10 goals and delivered nine assists, showing that he can be a rather useful goal threat at times.

In terms of his defensive capabilities, the centre-back has racked up a total of 114 successful tackles, 221 blocks, 161 interceptions and 473 clearances for the Europa League holders.

To further highlight how imposing he is at the back, the Frenchman ended his latest Bundesliga season with the highest average of clearances per game (4.1) and the joint-highest average for tackles (1.9) and interceptions (1.6) at his club.

This shows that he certainly has what it takes to be a solid defensive unit and why he could be a great long-term option for Newcastle given his young age.

Labelled an “enormous” player by Frankfurt journalist Christopher Michel, Ndicka should definitely be in the Magpies’ transfer plans should they get rid of Clark this summer.

Southampton are interested in Phil Jones

According to one journalist, Southampton are one of three Premier League sides interested in signing Manchester United defender Phil Jones.

The Lowdown: Jones’ playing time

Whilst the 30-year-old has made 228 appearances for Man United and has amassed 203 caps in the English top-flight (via Transfermarkt), the centre-back has found himself out of the Red Devils’ side in recent years.

The former England international played just 161 minutes of Premier League football all season, adding a further half-an-hour in the FA Cup to his first-team tally.

With injury and Covid-19 absences for Harry Maguire, Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof, Jones had to step up and play alongside Raphael Varane as United faced Wolves in January.

After a returning from his 709-day absence, teammate Luke Shaw hailed the defender’s performance, claiming that he was ‘phenomenal’ at the back.

The Latest: Saints interested

After returning from his devastating injury which he suffered back in 2020, rumours surrounding Jones’ future have now begun to emerge.

Taking to Twitter, a reporter for Italian newspaper Calcio in Pillole has shared news of a potential move away from Old Trafford for the 30-year-old, claiming:

“EXCL Fulham, Southampton and Leeds are interested in Manchester United’s English defender Phil Jones.”

The Verdict: Good move for him

With his United career having stagnated due to various reasons, a move away to another top-flight side could prove to be a great decision for Jones.

Saints could utilise an experienced defender in their backline alongside Mohammed Salisu, with the youngster having found his feet in the league after making 34 appearances this season.

With Ralph Hasenhuttl viewing the signing of a centre-back as a priority this summer, Jones could be a great addition to Southampton’s squad if he can stay fit, with United expected to command a minimal fee.

This could be a deal that suits all parties.

Liverpool in talks to sign Serge Gnabry

The last few weeks haven’t been ideal for Liverpool with Jurgen Klopp’s men failing to secure the Premier League title, losing in the Champions League final and seeing rumours of Sadio Mane’s exit.

What’s the word?

With that in mind, signing players ahead of next season should be a large priority right now.

Liverpool have a mind-blowing attack but if Mane does leave, they will need to find an experienced replacement who has the know-how to perform in top-level games.

Fortunately, it looks as though the Reds have identified his heir in Bayern Munich’s Serge Gnabry.

A report from Anfield Central claims that Liverpool have already held talks with the player’s agent over a possible move this summer with his contract at the Allianz Arena expiring in 2023.

They claim the winger is valued at around €80m (£68.3m) but Bayern realise they may have to accept as little as €40m (£34.1m) due to the fear of losing him for free in a year’s time.

[snack-amp-story url=”https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-liverpool-news-transfer-rumours-gossip-salah-gnabry-isak-romano” title= “Read the latest Liverpool news!”]

Talks are understood to have been had about the German’s salary demands with a weekly wage of £250k being mentioned. Liverpool, however, are only prepared to offer £200k-a-week.

The next Luis Diaz

A move for Gnabry this summer would be an incredibly sensible one by Liverpool. The Germany international is experienced and in his prime, knows where the back of the net is and he also knows the English game.

He came through the ranks at Arsenal before moving back to his homeland where he’s become one of the most exciting attackers in Europe.

Described as a “real weapon” by his former manager Niko Kovac to Bundesliga.com and as “magic” by Transfermakrt’s Stefan Bienkowski, the 26-year-old was in stunning form this term.

He scored 17 times for Bayern, as well as registering ten assists in all competitions.

That type of attacking return has seen him compared to Liverpool’s January signing, Luis Diaz, who has made an instant impact in Merseyside.

The Colombian has been involved in 11 goals for the Reds and according to FB Ref’s similar players model, Gnabry and Diaz are alike.

It’s clear to see why the pair are equal in terms of some of their in-depth attacking statistics.

This season, the Liverpool winger produced 4.62 shot-creating actions per 90 compared to the former Arsenal attacker’s 4.37.

Furthermore, they are similar when it comes to their dribbling with Gnabry registering a dribble success rate of 64.4% to Diaz’s 66.7%. As for progressive carries, the former amassed 9.38 per 90 in comparison to the latter’s 8.58.

With that in mind, this is a potential signing that will excite plenty inside of Anfield.

Leeds interested in Gustavo Hamer

Leeds United are interested in a deal to bring Gustavo Hamer to Elland Road in the summer transfer window.

What’s the talk?

That’s according to a report by Coventry Live, who claimed that Brighton & Hove Albion have now joined the Whites in their interest in a move for the Coventry City midfielder – who is reported to be valued at more than £5m by the Championship side – this summer.

The report added that the likes of Celtic, Rangers, Brentford and Norwich City are also keeping tabs on the 24-year-old, although the Sky Blues’ chief executive Dave Boddy recently revealed that he is not overly keen on the idea of sanctioning the sale of the Brazi-born Netherlands youth international.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-leeds-united-news-transfer-rumours-gossip-and-much-more-2″ title=”Read the latest Leeds news, transfer rumours and more!”]

In comments made earlier this month, Boddy said: “There’s clearly going to be a lot of interest in our players this summer because of the success that we have had, and the success that they have had this season. Market forces will always dictate what happens to players but we will not let players go for anything less than we believe to be the market value.

“We are not looking to sell anybody. We are trying to protect them all and I think we have shown that ambition by extending their contracts during the season. But if people do come knocking they’ll get short shrift unless they come up with the values that we believe the players are worth. And even then we will fight it.

“But the market dictates what players do sometimes. We are not looking to sell and will do our best to protect our assets but we won’t be giving players away, that’s for sure.”

Leeds’ next Phillips

Considering just how impressive Harmer was for Coventry this season, it is not difficult to see why Victor Orta would be keen on a deal to bring the 24-year-old to LS11 this summer.

Indeed, over his 39 Championship appearances in 2021/22, the £2.7m-rated talent was imperious in the heart of Mark Robins’ side. He scored three goals, registered 10 assists and created 14 big chances for his team-mates, along with taking 1.7 shots, making 1.6 key passes and completing 0.7 dribbles per game.

The £6.5k-per-week midfielder also impressed in metrics more typical of his position, completing 37.3 passes, 1.2 interceptions, 1.9 tackles and 3.7 long balls and winning 3.3 duels per match.

These returns saw the player who Marko Marosi dubbed “unbelievable” and Robins labelled “special” average a fantastic SofaScore match rating of 7.23, not only ranking him as Coventry’s best performer in the league but also as the sixth-best player in the entire division

For comparison, over Kalvin Phillips’ 37 Championship appearances for Leeds back in 2019/20, the £60m-valued midfielder scored two goals, provided two assists and created six big chances, in addition to taking 0.5 shots, making 1.8 key passes and completing 0.5 dribbles per game.

The England international also completed 44.9 passes, 1.4 interceptions, 2.6 tackles, 5.3 long balls and won 6.4 duels per match, with these returns seeing the £38k-per-week Thorp Arch academy graduate average a SofaScore match rating of 7.28.

As such, it is clear to see that Harmer and Phillips are two players who boast very similar traits, leading us to believe that Orta must do everything he can to land the Dutchman this summer, as Hamer could quite easily prove to be the Whites’ next big thing in the middle of the park.

Klopp drops Gomez injury update

Jurgen Klopp has delivered an injury update on Liverpool defender Joe Gomez after a ‘real shock’ injury scare during the Reds’ Premier League clash against Southampton on Tuesday night.

The Lowdown: Gomez injury concerns

The 24-year-old was forced off the pitch in the 2-1 victory over the Saints after sustaining a knock following a coming together with Nathan Tella, and ended up limping down the tunnel before being replaced by captain Jordan Henderson at the break.

After the game had finished, the centre-back was seen getting onto the team bus on crutches whilst wearing a protective boot, as the club will have to face an anxious wait to see whether or not Gomez will be available for selection for the upcoming Champions League final against Real Madrid on May 28th.

The Latest: Scan brings good news

Speaking during his post-match press conference to the media, however, the German boss played down the severity of the 11-cap international’s injury and confirmed that the colossus was in high spirits after having a conversation with him in the dressing room. As quoted by the club’s official website, Klopp revealed:

“I hope we are lucky. Joe himself has pain but not too much.

“He got, one time, a real shock to the system, but he is sitting in the dressing room and when I spoke to him he was in a good mood. I think maybe we were probably lucky but we have to figure that out.”

Paul Joyce of the The Times has since added to the optimism, revealing a scan was required but showed no serious damage and there is hope he will be fine for the trip to Paris.

The Verdict: Hopefully fit in time to face Madrid

With other members of the Liverpool starting XI – including Virgil Van Dijk, Fabinho, and Mohamed Salah – all suffering their own setbacks over the last week, the 54-year-old will most certainly be hoping that Gomez is declared fully fit ahead of the highly anticipated final vs Madrid at the end of the month, just in case van Dijk in particular suffers a setback.

Despite only making eight appearances in the top-flight this season, the £19.8m-rated Gomez has still had a hugely positive impact when he has been on the pitch, where he’s averaged 1.3 tackles and 1.1 long balls per game, as well as winning 1.3 of his aerial duels, via WhoScored.

Coming up against the likes of Karim Benzema and Vinicius Junior will be far from easy, so the Reds will need all of their defensive backline experience accessible to them when they face Carlo Ancelotti’s side if they want any chance of getting their hands on that Champions League trophy.

Man City: Guardiola ‘personally’ sets sights on £85m star

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has personally set his sights on an £85 million star who’s now open to joining the Premier League champions, according to reports.

The Lowdown: City eye new midfield man…

After completing a deal to sign Borussia Dortmund sensation Erling Haaland, City are now eyeing an heir to club legend and long-serving veteran Fernandinho who’s set to leave this summer.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/man-city-latest-developments-3/” title=”Man City latest developments!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

Sky Blues will miss the Brazilian who has been pivotal both on and off the field since his arrival from Shakhtar Donestk in 2013.

City officials are now tasked with bringing in his perfect replacement and the player in question will have absolutely huge shoes to fill.

The likes of Paul Pogba of Man United have even been linked as Guardiola and sporting director Txiki Begiristain seemingly leave no stone unturned in their search.

Another big name in Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong is reportedly on the agenda with Sport recently claiming his club will demand €100 million (£85m) to sell.

The Latest: Pep ‘personally’ sets his sights…

Now, according to reports out of Spain, Guardiola has ‘personally’ set his sights on the Dutchman and ‘wants’ him for the 2022/2023 season.

As well as this, it is believed that de Jong ‘would not look down’ on City’s boss and is now open to joining.

The Verdict: Make the move…

If Begiristain and co can whittle down the rumoured £85m price, de Jong would undoubtedly be a great signing.

Lauded as ‘phenomenal’ by former Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell, the 25-year-old has been a mainstay under Barca boss Xavi this season and one of the first names on the team sheet with only a handful of other players featuring over more La Liga minutes (WhoScored).

In that time, de Jong has won the joint-most Man of the Match awards for Barca alongside Memphis Depay – standing out as a major figurehead for the Catalans (WhoScored).

Guardiola’s personal interest tells you all need to know and we believe the Netherlands international ace would be quite the capture.

Leeds: Ben Dinnery makes Crysencio Summerville claim

Injury expert Ben Dinnery believes that Leeds United winger Crysencio Summerville may have a ligament problem following his ankle injury, as per Football Insider.

The Lowdown: Summerville out for the season

Summerville is among a number of Leeds players sidelined for the rest of the season and therefore hasn’t travelled with the squad for this afternoon’s crucial clash with Arsenal.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/latest-leeds-united-news-43/” title=”Latest Leeds United news!” poster=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/cropped-2022-03-10T184055Z_1834933207_UP1EI3A1FW561_RTRMADP_3_SOCCER-ENGLAND-LEE-AVA-REPORT-1-scaled-1.jpg” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The 20-year-old picked up an ankle injury at Thorp Arch before the draw with Crystal Palace at the end of April. Jesse Marsch revealed that the youngster “twisted” his ankle, describing the season-ending problem as “disappointing”.

The Latest: Dinnery’s comments on Summerville injury

Dinnery, who contributes for Sky Sports, was talking to Football Insider regarding Summerville’s injury.

The injury expert stated that it isn’t impossible that the Dutch youth international has picked up an ‘avulsion fracture caused by a ligament problem’, which could keep him out for months. He outlined:

“This was a training ground injury on the eve of the Crystal Palace match.

“We have no mechanism of injury to go off. The terminology used gives us an indication that it isn’t too serious. There is no indication it will need surgery.

“If we were looking at the high end of the spectrum, it could be an avulsion fracture caused by a ligament problem. That would be months out.

“We can’t categorically rule that out. But based on what we know, a return to be fit for pre-season is more than realistic.”

The Verdict: Fingers crossed

Leeds fans may well have seen the last of Summerville in a Whites shirt, with rumours continuing over his future following his failed move to Hamburg in January.

Both Hamburg and Rangers have been heavily linked with the attacker in recent months, and he could depart Elland Road in search of regular game-time.

Only time will tell, but hopefully his ankle injury isn’t as serious as Dinnery claims it could be and that he will be fully fit for pre-season ahead of Marsch’s first full campaign in charge.

Newcastle transfer news on de Vrij

Newcastle United are reportedly now eyeing up a bargain move in the summer for Stefan de Vrij.

The Lowdown: Centre-back changes

With Premier League safety all but secure, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s (KSA) Public Investment Fund (PIF) will surely now be looking forward to the summer in order to take the team to the next level.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/newcastle-news-6/” title=”Newcastle news!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

One area that they look certain to strengthen in is the centre of defence, with the likes of Goncalo Inacio being mooted as a potential signing, and Jamaal Lascelles potentially heading out of the exit door.

The Magpies signed Dan Burn in January and the former Brighton star has been a huge hit, making a ‘ridiculous impact’, but it seems they are not finished yet.

The Latest: de Vrij eyed

As per Football Insider, the St. James’ Park faithful are just one of a number of clubs now targeting a move for de Vrij this summer, with both Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa also in the race for his signature.

He has been told by Inter Milan that he can leave for just £15m, £25m less than his previous £40m value, as the Serie A giants find themselves strapped for cash.

A recruitment source has revealed that the Netherlands international has not opened talks with Inter over a new contract, and his future is now up in the air.

The Verdict: Bargain

Considering his previous value, signing up de Vrij for a mere £15m would certainly be a bargain.

Described as a ‘monster’ by former Lazio defender Mauricio, the six-foot-two colossus simply loves to defend, with former player and fellow Dutchman Kees Kwakman saying that he ‘can do anything’, despite perhaps not being the biggest or the fastest for a central defender.

Nonetheless, at 30 years of age, de Vrij has so much experience of playing at the highest level, and so would bring an elite mentality into a dressing room hoping to pick up trophies throughout their long-term project.

Everton team news vs Chelsea

Patrick Boyland has now revealed some big Everton injury news before they play Chelsea at home in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

The Lowdown: Davies training

The Goodison Park faithful have revealed that Tom Davies is back in training, after not featuring since the 0-0 draw at home to Tottenham Hotspur in November.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/everton-news-4/” title=”Everton news!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

There will be question marks over how quickly he can get back to full fitness, and of course how much impact he can actually have with so little of the season left to play.

The Latest: Injury update

Taking to Twitter, The Athletic journalist Boyland has revealed that although Davies is now eligible for selection due to Jean-Phillipe Gbamin moving out on loan, he is still ‘some way off’ a return to the team:

“Tom Davies *is eligible for selection between now and the end of the season. Everton added him to PL squad list after JP Gbamin joined CSKA Moscow on loan. But midfielder, who was pictured training today, is still some way off a return.”

The Verdict: Bad news

Of course, the fact that Davies still seems far away from a return to action will certainly come as a big blow to Frank Lampard and his side.

Before his horrific injury, the central midfield player had managed one goal and one assist in seven games this season, and being a local boy, knows how much it means to the supporters for the Merseyside club to stay up.

Nonetheless, with the campaign drawing nearer to a close, this is news that the Toffees would certainly not like to hear.
